Aller avec Le Flux

She said "I'll throw myself away,
They're just photos after all"
I can't make you hang around
I can't wash you off my skin
Outside the frame, is what we're leaving out
You won't remember anyway
I can go with the flow
But don't say it doesn't matter anymore
I can go with the flow
Do you believe it in your head?
It's so safe to play along
Little soldiers in a row
Falling in and out of love
With something sweet to throw away
But I want something good to die for
To make it beautiful to live
I want a new mistake, lose is more than hesitate
Do you believe it in your head?
Go with The Flow

Time and The Reigning Swarm (an excerpt from a forthcoming short shory by Matt Amyx)

As if the warm weather wasn't bad enough, Barry felt a cold coming on. He sneezed and rubbed his nose looking around to see if anyone had watched him as if the habit of doing so was still relevant.

3 days had passed since the disturbing menace from the skies in the south had devoured everything in site and left ruin and chaos in their wake. And all he could do was wonder if they'd come back and when and what he was going to do with the body that lay in his living room.

Doyle's Law

One of the best movies I've seen, and I mean to say that this is one of the top 20 of ALL time in my book, is 25th Hour. Did I ever in all my years think that one of Spike's films would be up there even in the top 100? Don't get me wrong, he's made some brilliant movies... not many of which target me as the core of their audience, but brilliant none-the-less. 25th Hour is a movie anyone could love and everyone should see (and it's not even because the main character is Irish).

Overflowing with superior character study and rife with breathtakingly wonderful visuals via New York's diverse landscape, Spike captured a vibration in this film that you can't help but want to get right up next to and stay with for a while. The actors chosen are perfect, the acting itself even more so and there is nothing out of place in this preterhuman film.

If I had to complain about anything, (and you know me) I'd have to say that the only thing wrong at all is the "double-take" shot edits that only show up a few times but still manage to be a "show off" attempt rather than an exercise in any real relevance. That and the incredibly tired Springsteen song at the end (but you don't really have to hear it unless you're like me and watch every credit).

I won't bore you ala a story summary or a who's-who of actors, that's what Wikipedia is for. Instead, it's enough that I say to see it. If you don't, now that you've read this, you'll have to live with that little voice in the back of head wondering what you're missing.

Qui Vous Est

Three shots for a dollar, win a real live doll
All the lies that you tell, I believed them so well
Take them back, take them back to your red house
For that fearful leap into the dark
Oh well, I did my time in the jail of your arms
Now Ophelia wants to know where she should turn

Tell me, what did you do, what did you do the last time?
Why don't you do that?
Well, go on ahead and take this the wrong way
Times not your friend
Do you cry, do you pray, do you wish them away?
Are you still leaving nothing but bones in the way?
Did you bury the carnival, with the lions and all?
Excuse me while I sharpen my nails

And just who are you, who are you this time?
You look rather tired, are you pretending to love?
Well, I hear that it pays well
How do your pistol and your Bible and your sleeping pills go?
Are you still jumping out of windows in expensive clothes?
Well, I fell in love with your sailors mouth and your wounded eyes
You better get down on the floor, don't you know this is war
Tell me, who are you this time?
Who Are You

Why Aren't You Sleeping (La Vérité derrière les Gens de Couche-tard et Matin)

By: Brie Cadman

I used to work with one of my roommates and getting up in the morning and heading to our job proved to be one of the most trying times in our friendship. I was up with the alarm clock and onto my morning routine, whereas she would stay in bed well past the ringing. Convinced we would be late, I’d go in and give her some gentle nudging, which never went over well. She’d grumble and complain; sometimes she’d hurl insults like “Leave me alone,” or “I hate you,” or simply, “Die.” Offended, I’d sulk away, even more convinced of our impending tardiness. Later on, over a strong cup of coffee, she’d apologize and we’d have a good laugh, only for the same routine to be repeated the following morning.

Get Up by Your Own CLOCK
As it turns out, our sleeping preferences weren’t just due to the fact that I responded better to the alarm. The circadian rhythm, a 24.1-hour period that dictates the sleep-wake cycle, differs among people and can influence whether we are a night owl or a morning lark.

Studies have indicated that self-described morning people have shorter circadian rhythms than self-identified night owls. This means that morning people sleep through their peak hour of sleepiness, so they wake up feeling refreshed. Evening types usually wake up right around their peak hour of sleepiness, so they may have high levels of melatonin and feel groggy. No wonder it’s tough to rouse them.

Hormones and body temperature also differ between the sleep groups. Early birds have higher levels of cortisol in the morning, which may give them the perky edge. Body temperature tends to be low in the morning, peaks in the late afternoon, and decreases until bedtime. Early risers have a body temperature peak around 3:30 p.m., while night owls are hottest around 8 p.m.

Our sleep preferences are at least in part hereditary. Differences in the CLOCK gene (short for Circadian Locomotor Output Cycles Kaput), for instance, may contribute to differences in our favored times of activity. Sleep researchers at Stanford University found that people with one genotype had an increased preference for eveningness, while the other genotype had an increased preference for morningness.

Biology and Behavior
Though our sleeping and waking preferences may be partially innate, some are due to what we’re used to from childhood, the seasons, or what we’ve adapted to. This means we can—and do—change our sleeping patterns.

For instance, during the summer, when daylight hours are plenty, we may stay up later but rise earlier with the sun. In the winter, darkness and cold sets in early, making our beds all that much more alluring. It’s also harder to wake early in the winter when it’s dark out.

Age also alters our sleeping patterns. Different times in our lives lend themselves to different sleeping patterns. During the teens, for instance, hormones may change the sleep and wake patterns, and this is one explanation as to why so many teens tend to shift to a night owl schedule. (Socializing, studying, and busy schedules also contribute.) Alternatively, as people get older, work and familial demands tend to make people more morning focused, regardless of their preferences. Later in life, in the sixties and seventies, people tend to need less sleep altogether.

In Sleep as in Life?
In reality, however, few of us are true morning people who can effortlessly bound out of bed at five or six in the morning; likewise die-hard night owls are also rare. Researchers estimate that extremes comprise about 10 to 20 percent of the population, with the rest of us falling somewhere on the intermediate spectrum. And in fact, the majority of us prefer a common point in the 24-hour continuum: daytime.

So what does that say about the common belief that night people are more creative—the artist who stays up to the wee hours to paint or the musician who keeps a bedtime-at-dawn type schedule?

A few studies show that character traits may differ between the diurnal and the nocturnal. A Spanish researcher found that the time of day we prefer to be most active corresponds to certain personality traits. Early risers were more likely to be logical and analytical, and likely to use concrete information as sources of knowledge, whereas those that stayed up late were more imaginative and intuitive. Another study published in the February 2007 issue of Personality and Individual Differences determined that night owls scored better on creativity tests than did intermediary and morning people.

However, the research presents a bit of a chicken and egg conundrum: Does your internal clock shape your psychology or does your psychology help shape your sleeping patterns, and thus your internal clock? Many questions still remain and I’m sure there are many creative early risers and analytical late-nighters who would dispute the above studies.

Can an Owl See the Light?
Despite our preferences, we do live in a society where we pretty much follow an early riser’s schedule. If you are someone who has to conform to a regular work schedule, then there are some things you can do to help shift your sleep pattern into one. Many of them are tips on how to get a good’s night sleep in general. The National Sleep Foundation has the following recommendations:

• Don’t bring it with you.
The bed should be used for sleeping and sex, not computing, watching TV, eating, etc. Though I read before going to bed, the NSF even recommends banning books from your boudoir.

• Try to stay consistent.
Studies have shown that night owls tend to have inconsistent bed and waking times. One of the best ideas for a good’s night sleep is to try to go to bed around the same time every night. (I find this nearly impossible on the weekends.) This will not only help you sleep better, it can help shift your clock to an earlier (or later, if that’s what you want) bedtime.

• Don’t pull the shades.
Our sleep patterns are affected by light, so letting the natural stuff in each morning will help you rise. Don’t put down the blinds or shades; the brightness will help you wake up. (If not totally make you mad.) In addition, when evening rolls around, dim the lights and make sure your bedroom is dark.

• No midnight snacks or drinks.
The NSF recommends not eating two to three hours before going to bed and not drinking too close to bedtime either. Likewise, people who have a hard time falling asleep are generally told to limit late afternoon caffeine consumption.

• Exercise regularly—it can help you fall asleep.
Exercising too close to bedtime can have the opposite effect, but generally if you finish within an hour or two of hitting the hay, you should be okay.

As it turns out, although I’m normally chipper in the a.m., I’m not a true morning person—I have to set an alarm and I like to hit snooze at least two to three times. And my late-sleeping roommate has now adjusted her schedule to her new job with early hours. And she gets up all by herself.

Faire je dépense à jamais et suis ici satisfait pas

While I was in high school I was an avid fan of the Canadian record label Nettwerk and had come across this then unknown voice that moved me to the point I bought everything up to and including Fumbling Towards Ecstasy.

Years have passed an unfortunately her proud-female-festival turned bulldog-dyke-mullet-contest is more what she's known for than anything else. Well I heard this song at lunch today and was reminded of just how elegant her voice was and how talented a writer she is.

I am unable to post the original video (which rules) but here is a remake she's recently done. The song is still as angelic as the lyrics are hauntingly scary. It's funny that all the lesbos adopted this song, given it's subject matter.

"Through this world I've stumbled
so many times betrayed,
Trying to find an honest word,
to find the truth enslaved,
You speak to me in riddles and
you speak to me in rhymes
My body aches to breathe your breath,
your words keep me alive,"
Would I spend forever here and not be satisfied

Abandoned Car in Habana (an excerpt from a forthcoming short shory by Matt Amyx)

The rules were simple, four deaths in four nights, all ruled accidents by local law enforcement, all gruesome in nature and all committed by the two parties involved. Barry looked at his watch, it was 9:15. He walked to the end of the street and looked back at his assistant.
"What time have you got?" he asked.
"9:16... why?"
"No reason. Where are the suit cases?"
"In the back of your car. Why are you asking all these questions?" his assistant inquired.
"Because in a few hours they'll come for us, and I want to know where those suit cases are when they do."
"Don't worry about the cops..."
"...It's not the police I'm worried about anymore. Remember that guy in the hallway? He's the one who set this up. The one who affixed the rules to which we had to adhere and he's the one who'll kill us both as soon as we're done."
Barry's assistant looked out into the street watching a piece of trash in the warm breeze as he thought of what Barry said.
"What will it help to have those two heads in the suit cases..?"
"It may buy us some time while they..." Barry looked at his assistant almost smiling at the absurdity of what he was about to say. "...eat them."

Gai porte maintenant les bottes de cowboy

Few things in life match the horrible mediocrity of last nights CMA's. For one, they should not be allowed to call the vomit they're putting out "country". This crap is merely other forms of music (none of which are country), played terribly by session musicians and hired hands for scale, then they throw on a banjo or steel guitar and slap the words "country's new rising star" on it and viola! You have instantly forgettable shit with instantly unlikeable people mouthing the words to annoying as hell fans who dish out dollar after dollar for insanely bad "music" all because their "friends" watched CMT and are now under the impression that they should like the musical equivalent of a Mexican wire-hanger-abortion that is known as Rascal Flatts (as seen in the typical "gay-pointing-douche-bags" pose).

Even though the night had it's "worthy" nominations which were few and far between, not once was anyone worthwhile awarded. Instead all the flash in the pan moron bands and artists whose labels have deep enough pockets to push their artist on an even more fake "country radio" were allowed the little glass statues that resemble knives that enter the backs of the actual artist who busted their asses to get to the top and weren't given everything instantly ala Carrie Underwood...WHO BY THE WAY WAS THE TWAT THAT HOSTED THE STUPID FUCKING THING!!! WHO the fuck is listening to this shit?!?

Anyway, I suppose at this point you're wondering why I even watched when it would have been much more entertaining to watch mildew collect on the rim of a toilet. Well it's simple, I was watching because Laura had to watch and I didn't want her to suffer alone. That's that. In the meantime, I'm going through my old post's on TorqueZine from two years ago to find the last post I did on the CMA's... I think I pointed out how gay Rascal Flatts was then too.

I found it! This was a post I did for TorqueZine way back on 11.10.06:

The Gay State of Country Music (brought to you by Old Navy and your local failed rock musicians)

I saw the CMA's the other night and I was stunned at just how gay these country bands have become. I mean to say, what ever happened to country music being about COUNTRY?

Not that I've really been a fan of anything that's come along in the last 15 years but the pretty boys on stage now quite obviously couldn't hack it in rock bands (15 years ago it was the other way around. Remember Drivin' and Cryin?), so they're trying their hand at being "hip" country boys, singing about the same tired cliché like, "I'm a redneck and I am proud of it" or "I love you girl cuz, you have no manners or class".

They all even act the same. Singers now look like someone from "Queer Eye". They all have the same Joe Perry over-done rock stance and look around at each other while playing as if to say "Hey fella's, ain't this fun? remember when we did this in our loser rock band?" FUCK NEW COUNTRY!!! Gay!!!
Gay now wears cowboy boots

La Loge Noire, 12 jeunes arbres de sycomore dans le Bosquet de Glastonbury

"A place of almost unimaginable power, chock full of dark forces and vicious secrets. No prayers dare enter this frightful maw. The spirits there care not for good deeds or priestly invocations, they're as like to rip the flesh from your bone as greet you with a happy "good day." And if harnessed, these spirits in this hidden land of unmuffled screams and broken hearts would offer up a power so vast that its bearer might reorder the Earth itself to his liking."

Give me all of your grief
I have no use for the truth

Roderigh Vich Alpine dhu, ho! i-e-roe!

We have a new President Elect, and with the news, celebrations and excitement over the event I can't help but see in the eyes of those in jubilation, that blank look that they really don't know anything.

Gone are the days of civility in an election, of composing oneself with any dignity. Gone are the days of voting based on platforms. Now we're voting based on what color someone is or isn't.

I'd like to say that this was untrue... but watch the celebrations, look at what they say... it's as vague as the look on their celebratory faces. We've voted someone in based on one thing and one thing alone. Is this what we are?

The news is making a huge deal about the massive voter turnout and how many voted for the first time in their lives. I can guarantee you that these same people voted based on a bias they were unable to have in previous elections and that they are also that majority that did nothing in 2004 but complained all the way through to 2008.

The only person on the winning side of this election that I've seen act with any form of maturity is Barack Obama himself. Do I have anything against him, not at all. In fact I think this country needs another Democrat in office. I am opposed to the idea that Obama went in based more on what color he is and on the fact that uneducated voters put him in office without thinking for a second about anything but his skin color. This was a factor I pointed out so long ago.

I have no political bias. I do not chose to associate myself with a side when it comes to anything in life so why would I when it comes to politics? By choosing to say you're Republican, you blind yourself to what Republicans do wrong or what Democrats do right. It's the same vice-versa.

People are sheepish, non-thinking zombies who will side with what they "think" is right as opposed to finding out what actually is and you have but to listen to the voice of the majority of people who put our new President Elect in power to know that my statement has never rang more true than right now within the political climate of this great nation. It's sad. Seriously.

I am in favor of Barack's presidency and in favor of the Democratic party taking things over for the next four years. A lot of people who know me or even claim to know me will be surprised to hear that but it's true. My complaint about this election is not in the result but in the mode by which it was achieved.

Barack is going to make a fine president and I look forward to the coming years under is leadership. I do however hope that the very people who put him in office and in whom he shows such infinite faith will begin to educate themselves and start making decisions based on the wellness of this country and not on whether they can show up to work and simply say "history was made" for the sake of history and not for the fact that our livelihood as a country depended on it.

Me le cerveau détaché ? Euh oh...

The Simpsons Poised for Multi-Season Pickup

By Joyce Eng

Don't change that channel yet.

The Simpsons, TV's longest-running American sitcom, is on tap for at least three more seasons, The New York Post reports.

"The cast is signed for three more years, so I would now say it's about a 90 percent chance we'll come back for at least one of those three," Al Jean, the show's executive producer, said. "I actually think it's better than a 50 percent chance we'll do three more years of this at least."

Should the triple renewal follow through, that would put the animated series at 23 years old - raise your hand if you're younger than it! - which would give it sole bragging rights as the longest-running scripted series, of any genre, ever.

At the moment, The Simpsons is tied with 20-season-long Gunsmoke for the honor. You know they totally want to break the tie.

Are you excited to be staying in Springfield? And will The Simpsons ever end?
Me loose brain? Uh oh...

7 Façons pour Taillader la Tension

Chronic stress seems to be our national disease, especially these days. Millions suffer from symptoms of stress: nervous tension, restless sleep, difficulty focusing and remembering, irritability, and health complications. Generally speaking, stress speeds up aging. Learn the ways to manage stress, and you will look and feel younger.

1. Start your day with meditation
Spend time every day in meditative relaxation, with calming music if you desire. Start with five minutes and work your way to 15 or 20 minutes each day. Meditation is your number one way to reduce the output of stress hormones and avoid adrenal exhaustion, serious threats to your health.

Try this Stress Release Meditation: Breathe consciously, relax, and with each exhale focus on relaxing each area of your body in sequence, starting from the top of your head and moving all the way down to your toes.

2. Manage your mood with diet and herbs
Chinese Medicine considers the liver to be the center of your emotions. To allay stress and balance your emotions, keep your liver healthy and happy:

• Every day, eat lots of green leafy vegetables, barley grass, seaweed - anything high in chlorophyll - to keep the liver in good health.

• Take 500 mg dandelion daily for a month or longer to cleanse the liver and help release built-up anger.

• Take 400 mg white peony root daily for 1 to 3 months to soothe the liver and balance your mood.

• Schisandra berry protects the liver from chemicals and calms the spirit. For emotional anxiety, take 200 mg daily for a month.

Take these herbs anytime during the day and before bed in tea or capsule form. All the herbs are available from health food stores and Eastern medicine practitioners. Many of my patients have had remarkable results with Calm-Fort Elixir, an all-natural formulation of herbs to calm your spirit.

3. Suppress stress with positive thinking
Instead of letting your thoughts run wild with anxiety, say affirmations to yourself, such as "I can handle the tasks I have ahead of me. I enjoy my responsibilities and fulfill them well." In fact, repeating positive affirmations can actually suppress the cortisol that the adrenal gland releases in times of stress - leaving you peaceful and calm.

4. Get stress out of your head and on paper
Writing in a journal every day can help you release thoughts and emotions that are causing you stress. Write from the position of an observer, recording your thoughts without any judgments. Just write it down so that you can see clearly what is going on inside. The next step is to identify the source of any anger or stress so you can begin to make changes. Looking into your thoughts give you the opportunity to gain insight into your feelings and reflect the underlying issues.

5. Unblock tension with exercise
The constant pressures of your job and family can lead to chronically elevated levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which is a direct cause of muscle and joint pain. Clenched jaw? Lump in your throat? Chronic back and neck pain? These can all be manifestations of stress in your body. Release physical tension and clear these emotional blockages by using massage therapy, exercise, yoga, tai chi, or qi gong to get the circuits moving.

6. A Retreat to Avoid Burnout
Overloading your brain is a recipe for stress and health problems. Information overload is particularly harmful at midlife because we have less tolerance for stress, which can contribute to high blood pressure and heart disease. Press the "reset" button on yourself. Give yourself a retreat from the stresses of modern life. Take one day out of the seven-day week to minimize "screen" time. Don't watch TV, don't check email, and don't look at the news - it will be there tomorrow, and after a day of rest, you will be refreshed and ready to look at them.

7. Perspective from the Natural World
Use nature to reduce stress. Go outside, hike in the woods, walk on the beach, anything that puts you in contact with the natural world. It is difficult to feel stressed when you are surrounded by nature's abundance of vitality and wonder.

I hope you find the ways to have less stress! I invite you to visit often and share your own personal health and longevity tips with me.

May you live long, live strong, and live happy!

-Dr. Mao
