YOU NEED SLEEP! (or...if you won't listen to me, then maybe you will listen to this...)

Effects on the brain

Sleep deprivation can adversely affect brain function. A 2000 study, by the UCSD School of Medicine and the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System in San Diego, used functional magnetic resonance imaging technology to monitor activity in the brains of sleep-deprived subjects performing simple verbal learning tasks. The study showed that regions of the brain's prefrontal cortex displayed more activity in sleepier subjects. Depending on the task at hand, the brain would sometimes attempt to compensate for the adverse effects caused by lack of sleep. The temporal lobe, which is a brain region involved in language processing, was activated during verbal learning in rested subjects but not in sleep deprived subjects. The parietal lobe, not activated in rested subjects during the verbal exercise, was more active when the subjects were deprived of sleep. Although memory performance was less efficient with sleep deprivation, greater activity in the parietal region was associated with better memory.

A 2001 Study at Harvard's Medical Institute suggested that sleep deprivation may be linked to more serious diseases, such as heart disease.

Animal studies suggest that sleep deprivation increases stress hormones, which may reduce new cell production in adult brains.

Impairment of ability

According to a 2000 study published in the British scientific journal, researchers in Australia and New Zealand reported that sleep deprivation can have some of the same hazardous effects as being drunk. People who drove after being awake for 17–19 hours performed worse than those with a blood alcohol level of .05 percent, which is the legal limit for drunk driving in most western European countries (the U.S. and UK set their blood alcohol limits at .08 percent). In addition, as a result of continuous muscular activity without proper rest time, effects such as cramping are much more frequent in sleep-deprived individuals. Extreme cases of sleep deprivation have been reported to be associated with hernias, muscle fascia tears, and other such problems commonly associated with physical overexertion. Beyond impaired motor skills, people who get too little sleep may have higher levels of stress, anxiety and depression, and may take unnecessary risks. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 100,000 traffic accidents each year are caused by fatigue and drowsiness. A new study has shown that while total sleep deprivation for one night caused many errors, the errors were not significant until after the second night of total sleep deprivation.

The response latency seem to be higher when it comes to actions regarding personal moral rather than in situations when morality is not in question. The willingness to violate a personal belief has been shown to be moderated by EQ, so people with high EQ are effected less by sleep deprivation in such situations.

Several large studies using nationally representative samples suggest that the obesity epidemic in Europe and the United States might have as one of its causes a corresponding decrease in the average number of hours that people are sleeping. The findings suggests that this might be happening because sleep deprivation might be disrupting hormones that regulate glucose metabolism and appetite. The association between sleep deprivation and obesity appears to be strongest in young and middle-age adults. Other scientists hold that the physical discomfort of obesity and related problems, such as sleep apnea, reduce an individual's chances of getting a good night's sleep.

...and just like that, it ended. Not with dignity...but with long.

It will destroy all of the civilized planets, making dust of the lives and creations of all that came before it. Extreme, fatal, massive terrestrial strike...then it all stops. No fun, no music, no movies...and perhaps it was time anyway right...after all...your far too old to do this anymore...why bother. Follow the Hunter into the woods and be happy with the impact you've already made. One day it will become clearer but you won't be here to see it...who cares?

Willst du, bis der Tod euch scheidet, treu ihr sein für alle Tage?
Will you, until death separates you, be faithful to her for the rest of your days?
Ist es hoffnungslos?
Is it Hopeless?

...I'll never look into your blue eyes...

Six o'clock in the morning
still sitting here pouring
the drinks till they're gone
we did everything together
would have done it forever
how did we go wrong..?

I know that what goes up comes down
I didn't know you hit the ground

Why'd you have to give it up
you were just a little girl
I'll never look into your blue eyes...

We did it just for a good time
a misunderstood time
we lived with a fear
I wish we still could have done things
not overhung things
I wish you were here

and now I'll live a life of could have beens
until new life begins

Why'd you have to give it up..?

Advice to the lovelorn: you will survive

By Julie Steenhuysen Mon Aug 20, 6:00 PM ET

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Despite the laments of pining pop stars and sad sack poets, U.S. researchers now think breaking up may not be so hard to do.

"We underestimate our ability to survive heartbreak," said Eli Finkel, an assistant professor of psychology at Northwestern University, whose study appears online in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology.

Finkel and colleague Paul Eastwick studied young lovers -- especially those who profess ardent affection -- to see if their predictions of devastation matched their actual angst when that love was lost.

"On average, people overestimate how distressed they will be following a breakup," Finkel said in a telephone interview.

The nine-month study involved college students who had been dating at least two months who filled out questionnaires every two weeks. They gathered data from 26 people -- 10 women and 16 men -- who broke up with their partners during the first six months of the study.

The participants' forecasts of distress two weeks before the breakup were compared to their actual experience as recorded over four different periods of time.

Not surprisingly, they found the more people were in love, the harder they took the breakup.

"People who are more in love really are a little more upset after a breakup, but their perceptions about how distraught they will be are dramatically overstated when compared to reality," Finkel said.

"At the end of the day it, it is just less bad than you thought."

You're the best friend that I ever had
I've been with you such a long time
You're my sunshine
And I want you to know
That my feelings are true
I really love you
You're my best friend

Find no hope in nothing new...

Before I drown in sorrow
Last thing that I'll say
How will I laugh tommorow
If I can't even smile today

"It is very important for every human being to forgive herself or himself because if you live, you will make mistakes; it is inevitable.

But once you do and you see the mistake, then you forgive yourself and say, 'well, if I'd known better I'd have done better.'

So you say to people who you think you may have injured, 'I'm sorry,' and then you say to yourself, 'I'm sorry.'

If we all hold on to the mistake, we can't see our own glory in the mirror because we have the mistake between our faces and the mirror; we can't see what we're capable of being.

You can ask forgiveness of others, but in the end the real forgiveness is in one's own self."

The Edmund Fitzgerald (or...the lake it is said never gives up her dead)

Edmund Fitzgerald artifact discovered

COPPER HARBOR — When the SS Edmund Fitzgerald settled on the floor of Lake Superior Nov. 10, 1975, it went down in history. The circumstances and the cause of the tragedy are known only to the 29 men who lost their lives that day.

There are few salvaged pieces remaining of the vessel on which those men lost their lives to the wrath of Lake Superior. Joe Rasche and his family are one of the few that can not only say they’ve seen wreckage from the Edmund Fitzgerald but held it in their bare hands.

Joe, an apple farmer from Conklin, Mich., was agate hunting with his family midway between Horse Shoe Harbor and High Rock Bay in Keweenaw County Friday when he discovered a life ring off to the side of a blown-down tree. The ring was found 100 feet from the waters edge, up a rocky slope, 20 feet higher than the lake level, three feet into the trees, Joe said. The ring was not visible until he went up the bank, he said. Thinking nothing of it, Joe rolled the ring down the hill to his daughters. Joe’s youngest daughter Elizabeth, 10, caught the ring in her hands and turned it over. What was printed on the ring, they had never imagined: Edmund Fitzgerald.

“It sent a chill down my spine,” Joe said. “It’s the last thing I thought it was.”

Joe, an avid “rock hound,” had bought an agate book the day before and read the best place to look for agates was under blown down trees. He never did find any agates under the fallen tree, but what he did find meant so much more.

“I went up over the bank to look at the blown over tree and there it was,” he said. “I bet it’s been laying there for 30 years at least.”

Joe thinks the life ring came off the boat as it went down and the winds and currents blew it to shore, where it’s laid to rest.

“It’s quite a bit of history to show up after all these years,” he said.

The ring looks like mice have been chewing on it and the words that say Edmund Fitzgerald have faded over time because it was facing up, enduring sun and weather exposure. Duluth is printed on the other side of the ring and is clearly visible.

Researchers at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society Museum in White Fish Point are looking into why the life ring has Duluth imprinted on it, Joe said.

“We’re going to offer it to the shipwreck museum ... I think that’s where it belongs,” he said. “In honor of all the people who lost their lives, I think it belongs in the museum.”

Joe, his daughters Emily and Elizabeth, his wife Mary, and his sister Marie were camping at Fort Wilkins State Park in the West Campground and were spending the last day of their trip looking for agates on the rocky terrain when they found one of the life rings that had been on board the Edmund Fitzgerald.

“It had been a pretty uneventful day until then besides feeding the ... flies,” Joe said. “It’ll be a trip they’ll never forget.”

Es una lástima usted no puede ver la verdad acerca de estas personas

It's ok to find things sad. Once in a while life is going to give you something you didn't ask for and it's going to hurt and at that point, it's ok to feel that pain. It's ok to say "I wasn't ready for that, but I guess it had to happen".

The truly sad part though is the undeniable knowledge that things out of your own control have contributed the most to your pain. People that don't care, about you or about anything but themselves but have some way convinced those around them that they are on the level.

Consider you want the kind of friends that talk behind your back, saying one thing to you and one thing to someone else, all the while contradicting themselves in order to achieve temporary indulgences that are neither helping you nor them? The lies will be exposed one day, why count yourself among the liars?

Take a look at people that work their way into a group out of one can really figure why they have no friends from their past. Did they just move? No. Most likely, no one in their past will have anything to do with them. One can only sit back and hope that by the time their true colors show that the damage to existing relationships is not so badly done that there is no going back.

We've got to start thinking of our relationships and not about how to destroy everyone else's. But, I know this falls on deaf ears. Everyone has lost sight of how hard it is to hold things together and how easy it is to just let it all fall apart. No one wants to work toward any satisfactory life, but the party has to end. Find the happiness in yourself and stop trying to take it away from others. Stop trying to hurt other people to try to cover up your own short-comings and unhappiness.

When you think about how much you really want to be have to step back an realize that happiness is not avoiding real life. Happiness is embracing it and learning to conform it to what you want and need. You can't cover up your hurt forever...eventually that wound will get infected. It's your call...clean the wound...take care of it...don't just keep it out of sight and endure the pain. FIX IT!

Or, just forget about all of this...after one EVER gets what's coming to they...?

i'm becoming less defined
as days go by
fading away (you might say)
i'm losing focus
kind of drifting into the abstract
in terms of how i see myself

sometimes i think i can see right through myself

less concerned about fitting in to the world
your world that is
because it doesn't really matter (no it doesn't really matter anymore)
none of this really matters anymore

yes i am alone but then again i always was
as far back as i can tell
i think maybe it's because
you were never real to begin with
i just made you up
to hurt myself

and it worked
yes it did

there is no you
there is only me
there is no fucking you
there is only me

well the tiniest little dot caught my eye
and it turned out to be a scab
and i had this funny feeling like i just knew it's something bad
i just couldn't leave alone

and i kept picking at that scab
like it was a door way trying to seal itself shut
but i climbed through

and now i'm somewhere i am not supposed to be
and i can see things i know i really shouldn't see
now i know why
things aren't as pretty
on the inside

there is no fucking you
there is only me

I am about to my fucking limit with a shit load of fucking things going on in my life. People seem dead set on making my life a goddamn torture fest and it is all I can fucking do to keep from snapping! I am forced at my job to sit idle for a fucking hour doing nothing and fucking up my entire schedule for whatever mother fucking reason and I am sick to death of being the person who has to work extra fucking hard trying to make my shit run smoothly all the while I am screwed out of any extra money, out of any accolades and I watch other people perfectly fucking capable of doing the same thing do NOTHING but fucking socialize and eat for most of the day...WHAT THE FUCK! And this people, is just what I have to fucking endure at work! Wanna hear what is going on outside of my personal life?! I won't go there for one reason and one reason only. If I write about that right now, I am going to seriously fucking lose it. That is how pissed off I am...suffice it to say, there are WAY too many fucking people trying to sabotage things in my and my loved ones lives and any minute now, I fully expect karma to drop by and lay complete and utter waste to these fucking liars. You have it coming...just wait! Was this me venting? Fuck no...this is my announcing a pre-cursor to my life-ruining anxiety attack. Fuck off!

A person who has been playing some childish games will be exposed today.

Your energy is still at cross-purposes with the rest of the world, and that should manifest as little more than sluggishness. You might have a bit of domestic trouble if expectations are high, though.

le Juste Milieu est Absolu Zéro

They push...pending a glance...a look to them for security.
They beg..."pay attention, we want what we want...and damn what's best for you."
They need...all the while knowing of your sacrifice..never once thinking of the real price you pay.
They moan..."the more you give, the more we take. We want more...we need more!"
They ruin...they come between what was, and shatter what could have been.
They achieve all of the above.
