Le Gémissement noir de Serpent

I had no intention of seeing this movie. Perhaps it was the infantile tone given via it's lame trailer or maybe it was that I just wasn't the target audience. I couldn't think of even the slightest inkling of a reason for me to sit through what is most often chronic overacting by Jackson and the pseudo-anime yawn that is Ricci.

Those things aside, for some reason as I was getting ready for work the other day, I happened to have left my TV on a movie channel that was showing Black Snake Moan and the dialog between Lazarus (Sam Jackson) and R.L. (John Cothran, Jr.) caught my attention. It wasn't anything deep, but it was honest and well-played. I decided to DVR it.

The movie features some of the best acting from Jackson we've seen since Pulp Fiction yet not quite so over-the-top. He gives the character depth and a genuineness that shows just how good Sam is if given direction and not allowed to do his bulging eyes maniacal black man routine.

Pretty much every actor gives a solid performance save Ricci, who's character Rae you love to hate/love/hate/love over and over and seriously over-acts her "in heat" scenes making the problem of which she's plagued WAY too over the top and far too animated to be taken seriously. That and she's just too skinny to be even remotely cute. But I digress.

This movie is well worth seeing and despite Ricci giving an "impossible to take serious" performance, she is still pretty good all things considered and this should in no way impede you watching it should the opportunity arise.

Supprimer graduellement BAISANT eBay

Some may ask "why" I'd want to phase out eBay, others will know exactly why. Some of you have stepped off that fucked up marry-go-round a long time ago for numerous reasons and you were the smart ones.

The reason I am not just dumping them altogether right away is, I am awaiting a few items and since it isn't the sellers fault that eBay are a bunch of fucking unknowing morons, I will still leave those sellers good feedback.

Just so we're up to speed, eBay decided to TOTALLY redesign their interface with no back door for those of us who do not want it changed. The new design is unusable, ugly, it is not user friendly and is the preference of some dip-shit who hasn't ever used the service. What a completely un-fucking-professional move on the part of eBay.

So prepare for all my online business Amazon. Unless you think it's a good idea to completely change your interface to the unusable with no way of restoring it to it's original look and feel.

On a much more professional note, Yahoo recently did the exact same thing but came around a few weeks later with a "restore" option. Kudos must be made to Yahoo. Now if only they could shake that whole "overseas" stigma...

Guichet de weekend

I watched a borrowed VHS copy of The Killing about 12 years ago and loved it. Now that all this time has passed, I've watched it again via satellite and must say that the movie is solid. Kubrick does masterful work in this, his 3rd film and set off a grand career with film-noir at it's finest. Recommended.

SIMON PEGG & NICK FROST CONFIRMED FOR TINTIN

From Simon's blog:

After months of speculation and bare faced denial, I can finally say yes, Nick and I will be appearing as the Thom(p)son Twins in Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's forthcoming motion capture adaptation of Tin Tin. It's been on the cards for ages but because it hadn't been announced by HQ, we couldn't really confirm it. It's weird when you have to be so clandestine about something essentially so ephemeral but I guess it comes down to making the announcement when the time was right and not simply because the scoop hounds are barking. I've actually been working on another movie for over a year now without my involvement being announced. There's even a trailer in theaters. I'll be able to tell you all about that soon. Just got to wait for the nod from the PR bods.

All this will in no way affect Paul. We are still due to start shooting in spring and our commitments to the quiffed, Belgian, boy reporter will be over for the time being by then. Nick and I are off to LA in a couple of weeks to start rehearsals. I'm really looking forward to working with Andy Serkis, who aside from being a prodigiously talented actor, is one of the nicest chaps you could ever wish to meet.

And in case you're wondering how on earth Nick and I are going to play virtually identical twins, as I said over on Peggster.net, let's not forget we will be working with the technology that transformed Mr. Serkis into a messed up hobbit and a 40 foot gorilla, two things which have coincidentally been used on occasion, to describe myself and Nick.

Hope 2009 is being good to everyone so far. And to our LA contingent, you will soon able to see Nick and I doing homoerotic work outs on Santa Monica beach.
