Grâce

There's the moon asking to stay
Long enough for the clouds to fly me away
Well it's my time coming, I'm not afraid to die
My fading voice sings of love,
But she cries to the clicking of time

"Wait in the fire..."

And she weeps on my arm
Walking to the bright lights in sorrow
Oh drink a bit of wine we both might go tomorrow
Oh my love
And the rain is falling and I believe
My time has come
It reminds me of the pain
I might leave behind

And I feel them drown my name
So easy to know and forget with this kiss
I'm not afraid to go but it goes so slow

Le Sagittaire Elevé

Just what are you waiting for? That job, cutie, or other exciting new opportunity is not going to come to you -- you have to go to it. It's time to get proactive and go after what you want! So cross that room and talk to that alluring person before someone else gets to them first. Tell your boss you're interested in the job before they start interviewing other candidates. The universe can't help you get what you want until you take that first step.

Du bureau de M. ou Mme Dumbass...

I have a friend who recently was put back in touch with an old acquaintance who loved to call him by a pet name. I won't say who my friend was or who the acquaintance was for the sake of privacy, but it prompted a conversation about the kind of people who feel the need to give "pet" names to other people, bastardizing their name. Ex: Matt might be "Matty" or whatever. Now I'm not against, "honey" or "babe" or something like that, those names are endearing, what I hate, and from talking to several people, they hate as well, is the "cutesy" little things tagged on to someone's name or an abbreviation of their name. "-o-rama" and "-ster" or "-meister" carry with it all the gayness of the time period they came from. Remember when you were in 3rd grade and that shit was even then "kinda" funny? Come on! Dig into that tiny brain of yours and grow the fuck up. And, just wait until you meet someone who thinks it's terribly cleaver to do that to their own name. Very weak...duh.

Le sagittaire

What's with all the gloom and doom? Right now, your subconscious imagination is coming up with a future that is far darker and more troublesome than it should be, so why not start thinking more positively? Shake off your negativity by spending time with the positive thinkers in your life. Let their sun-shiny disposition remind you that life is a lot more wonderful than you've been letting yourself believe it is. Getting out of a blue rut is easy if you just keep smiling!

"As Wichita falls... so falls Wichita Falls"

Over the weekend, I was unable to watch very many movies as I had somewhere in the range of 10,000 episodes of Ramsey related programming to go through. But, one of the movies I was able to watch and clear off DVR was The Ice Harvest. This neo-noir film was directed by Harold Ramis (yes, Egon from Ghostbusters) and is set in Wichita, Kansas.

Much like Fargo, the film is Dark...in fact much darker than Fargo in terms of over-all aesthetic but very similar in vibe.

Taking place over the course of one night and containing a frigid, claustrophobic air that makes it almost hard to watch, the film's star, John Cusack, of whom I am a big fan, brings a human side to the story and lets you click with what's going on. Billy Bob Thornton plays an asshole, (go figure) that you never really hate, despite what you know he was capable of and Connie Nelson does just fine as the hardly seen damsel in distress/problem causer.

But the only character who held a candle to Cusack was Oliver Platt, who has yet to disappoint me. His delivery is impeccable as is his un-challenged acting chops.

Over-all, I loved the movie which is based on the novel by Scott Phillips, and I recommend this to anyone who maybe will come across it on DVD or see it on a movie channel. For fans of Noir Cinema and character-actor John Cusack.

By the way...the phrase "As Wichita falls... so falls Wichita Falls" appears numerous times in the film but not in the novel. It is also maybe not-so-coincidentally the sort-of title of a Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays CD called As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls.

VOUS, sont le poids autour de mon cou...

It's sometimes funny to me, that the people in our lives that claim the most to have our best interests in mind are the very ones who remind us at every turn of our past mistakes, thus making it nearly impossible for we, the individuals in question, to pick up the pieces, improve ourselves and move forward. This has never been more prevalent in my life than now, when I feel I've made the most strides towards positive changes.

Am I a person whose made more mistakes than most? Do I stand out in the "I've really fucked up, put my foot in my mouth, lost my temper" categories? No, not really, and the fact is that most people that like to point your mistakes out are themselves most likely worse at the offense more often than you could ever hope to be and that is precisely why they feel the need to point it out when it is you who've done something. When they point it out in you, they both take the focus off themselves and avoid dealing with their own issue. There are somethings that are in fact, just as sad and pathetic as they sound, and these people should likely be looked at and weighed as to whether they are any help to you at all.

But what of the cases where people just feel the need to "remind" you of what you've done in the past? The relatives that like to point out that you were hard to handle when you were younger and tell you and everyone else about it every holiday or gathering. The friends, co-workers, people in your everyday life who've been there any length of time who feel the need to, when you feel you're the strongest, view you as such and try to knock you down?

This can be viewed two-fold. On the one hand, they see your progress and either don't feel they themselves are capable of the same progression and in fear of being surpassed or left behind, they subconsciously sabotage your growth. The other reason, they are just that selfish, they can't think of anyone to compare less than ideal situations to but you, so you become the scapegoat, the butt of the joke, the only thing they can think of to "compare" anything to, and rather than think about the effect it has on you that they insist on always bringing these negative, past transgressions up on a constant basis, they smother you, and when we're smothered too long...we die.

This is of course my opinion, my words and my observations, I welcome feedback or different points of view but doubt seriously that anyone guilty of what I've talked about will see it within themselves and try to adapt. Rather, they will most likely think "well, that's not me" or "fuck you, you're talking about me, but I'm not like that". Predictability is never in short supply, nor is persecution.
YOU, are the weight around my neck...

Mon Anxiété Me Tue

What I live with, is the constance of depression, the weight holding me down and drowning me.
I suffer, I ache...no sleep, no peace...all in the name of something. This darkness covers me, surrounds any chance, any hope for happiness. The rules of the game are simple, there is no winner. Not me, not you, no one wins...yet the game goes on. From the outside looking in, it all seems obvious, walk away. But, the choice is not always that easy... to be continued...

L'Infortuné

just a reflection
just a glimpse
just a little reminder
of all the what abouts
and all the might have
could have beens
another day
some other way
but not another reason to continue
and now you're one of us
the wretched

the hopes and prays
the better days
the far aways
forget it

it didn't turn out the way you wanted it to, did it?

now you know
this is what it feels like

the clouds will part and the sky cracks open
and god himself will reach his fucking arm through
just to push you down
just to hold you down
stuck in this hole with the shit and the piss
and it's hard to believe it could come down to this
back at the beginning
sinking
spinning

and in the end
we still pretend
the time we spend
not knowing when
you're finally free
and you could be...

...you can try to stop it but it keeps on coming

Le cours d'Empire

...I work for 59 minutes, to share one with you.
Course of Empire
(CoE:59M)

鼠 (Nezumi)

It's the year of the Rat (鼠) in the Chinese Zodiac, and being a Water Rat sign 02.16.72 - 02.02.73, this would be my year (...finally...hopefully) again.

The Rat was welcomed in ancient times as a protector and bringer of material prosperity. It is the first of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar.

Rat is associated with aggression, wealth, charm, and order, yet also associated with death, war, the occult, pestilence, and atrocities. The Year of the Rat is associated with the earthly branch symbol and starts today: February 07, 2008.

Being the first sign of the Chinese zodiacs, rats are leaders, pioneers and conquerors. They are charming, passionate, charismatic, practical and hardworking. Rat people are endowed with great leadership skills and are the most highly organized, meticulous, and systematic of the twelve signs. Intelligent and cunning at the same time, rats are highly ambitious and strong-willed people who are keen and unapologetic promoters of their own agendas, which often include money and power. They are energetic and versatile and can usually find their way around obstacles, and adapt to various environments easily. A rat's natural charm and sharp demeanor make it an appealing friend for almost anyone, but rats are usually highly exclusive and selective when choosing friends and so often have only a few very close friends whom they trust.

Behind the smiles and charm, rats can be terribly obstinate and controlling, insisting on having things their way no matter what the cost. These people tend to have immense control of their emotions, which they may use as a tool to manipulate and exploit others, both emotionally and mentally. Rats are masters of mind games and can be very dangerous, calculative and downright cruel if the need arises. Quick-tempered and aggressive, they will not think twice about exacting revenge on those that hurt them in any way. Rats need to learn to relax sometimes, as they can be quite obsessed with detail, intolerant and strict, demanding order, obedience, and perfection.

Rats consider others before themselves, at least sometimes, and avoid forcing their ideas onto others. Rats are fair in their dealings and expect the same from others in return, and can be deeply affronted if they feel they have been deceived or that their trust has been abused. Sometimes they set their targets too high, whether in relation to their friends or in their career. But as the years pass, they will become more idealistic and tolerant. If they can develop their sense of self and realize it leaves room for others in their life as well, Rats can find true happiness.

According to tradition, Rats often carry heavy karma and at some point in life may face an identity crisis or some kind of feeling of guilt. Rats are said to often have to work very long and hard for everything they may earn or have in life. However, a Rat born during the day is said to have things a bit easier than those who are born at night. Traditionally, Rats born during the night may face extreme hardships and suffering throughout life. Rats in general should guard themselves against hedonism, as it may lead to self-destruction. Gambling, alcohol and drugs tend to be great temptations to Rat natives.

Positive traits include: Meticulous, intelligent, shrewd, compassionate, charismatic, charming, ambitious, practical, industrious, honest, eloquent, versatile, familial, creative, hard-working, neat, organized, lovers of music, loving.

Negative traits: Controlling, obstinate, resentful, lacks-a-sense-of-humor, manipulative, cruel, vengeful, power-driven, critical, possessive, stingy, bossy, fickle, defensive.

フリクリ(オーブイエー) pronounced Fu-ri Ku-ri

Got a new thing on Monday Nights after The Boondocks. I'd always heard of FLCL (or Furi Kuri or Fooly Cooly), I think it was from Trip or Walt, but I'd never watched it, that is until last Monday. So last night, to make sure it wasn't a lark, I watched it again...and it turns out, this episode (V) was even better than last weeks (IV, go fig). I don't know enough of the storyline (god knows why) to tell you anything about it...but I'm already on ebay looking to supplement my DVD collection with anything and everything FLCL.

12.31.07 vs. 01.01.08 (The Givens Compound part IV)

Fumée sainte!

As I was about to fall asleep last Wednesday night, I happened upon the Australian movie "Holy Smoke!" with Kate Winslet and Harvey Keitel. I remembered hearing about the movie many years ago, but like many small budget, foreign films, I forget about them until I come across them again. The interesting thing about this movie is it's beauty via location and cinematography, but also the funny and serious meshing at every turn. It's almost as if the film was directed by several different people.

The plot is interesting as well, Kate's character, Ruth Barron, returns form India where she's been soul-searching. When her family learns that she has taken up following a guy named Baba, they worry that she has been brain-washed and hire P.J. Waters, an Exit counselor played by Keitel. What ensues is inappropriate and wonderfully confusing while keeping you locked in to see just what will happen next.

Recommended on so many levels.
